100 Days of Negative Space

I enjoyed the 100 Day Project last year so much that I decided to do it on my own this year. I have very limited time due to my dayjob and daily commute of 2 hours per day, so I was very realistic with my goals. I decided to focus on honing my skills to use negative space, select a minimal palette of colors, and work digitally. You can see the entire project on Instagram through the hashtag #100DaysofNegativeSpace

Each day, I used the iPhone or iPad app, Paper by FiftyThree to create a digital painting. My limit was I had to use 3 colors (not including the white background), and attempt to use keep some negative space. It was interesting to see what patterns (no pun intended) emerged. I loved creating amorphous shapes, and overlaying transparencies. You'll notice in the later ones that I'm starting to create patterns, which is something I'd love to do in the future. These were so much fun, and I would like to recreate some of them or do larger work in the vein of this project using scraping methods to move paint around, and some type of painting or printing. We shall see!
